(In my store, we also have the Bondi and the Stinson ATR) Most of this has been recent, as I was dealing with an injury that hurt to run on, except for when I was in my hokas. I have put at least 30+ miles in 4 models: The Clifton, Challenger ATR, Huaka, and Conquest. My personal experience: I will be honest, I haven't tested Hoka as much as I would like. They also focus on a wide (and therefore stable) base as well as an active foot frame (think of guide rails, so your foot doesn't fall off to either side easily.) I have found this to be true to an extent in my gait analysis of many customers. Hoka uses a meta-rocker in nearly all models in order to control your gait from heel to toe, no matter where you strike on your foot. I have a friend who runs 100 mile weeks and is a big dude (as far as distance is considered, 6'3", 210 ish,) and got upwards of 800 miles out of one of his models of Hoka. They use EVA and RMAT (I don't actually know what that stands for?) to build the most durable and soft combination in the shoe game. The Technology: Hoka is obviously known primarily for their maximal cushion soles. It has been around since 2010, and in 2013 it was purchased outright by Decker Sports. We have sort of failed to fully get into the shoe science like we wanted to, but I am bored and wanted to make this post to hopefully answer a lot of questions about the most curious shoe in running.Ī little background: Hoka One One (pronounced 1 1, formerly pronounced oh-nay oh nay) was designed originally by a couple of French ultra-trail runners who wanted better performance on the hill parts of long trail runs.
